Swim Superb’s Top Tips for Chorley & Preston Families
At Swim Superb, we’re proud to provide swimming lessons to families from across Chorley and Preston. When we ask parents why they choose us, the answer is nearly always the same: to give their children the vital life skill of swimming. More importantly, they want to know that if there’s ever an aquatic emergency, their child will have the confidence and skills to help themselves – or alert others – and stay safe.
With the summer holidays fast approaching, we wanted to share our Top 5 ‘Superb’ Tips to help keep you and your family safe around water. Whether you're heading to a local pool in Chorley or Preston, visiting a splash park, or off on a sunny trip abroad, we want everyone to enjoy the water safely and confidently.

Swim Superb’s 5 Superb Water Safety Tips
1️⃣ Always Supervise – No Exceptions
Even confident swimmers need supervision. Whether it’s at a public pool, at home in the paddling pool, or on holiday, a responsible adult should always keep a watchful eye on children in and around water. Armbands, discs, buoyancy vests, and swim rings do not replace proper supervision. A responsible adult must always stay alert and within reach.
2️⃣ Know Your Limits
It’s easy to get overconfident, especially in open water. Teach your children to recognise their limits and remind them that rivers, lakes, and even some pools can hide dangers like currents, sudden drops, or cold spots. Knowing when to say "no" is just as important as knowing how to swim.
3️⃣ Be Water-Wise in Open Water
If you’re planning to swim outdoors this summer, choose safe, supervised spots. Always check for safety signage and never swim alone. Cold water shock is a real risk — even on hot days, the water temperature can be dangerously cold. It can catch even strong swimmers off guard and quickly lead to danger.
4️⃣ Learn Essential Skills
At Swim Superb, our focus is on shaping stronger swimmers. We help Chorley and Preston children build water confidence and learn vital survival skills like floating, treading water, and safe self-rescue techniques. These skills could save a life one day — theirs or someone else’s.
5️⃣ Respect the Water, Respect Others
Follow local safety advice and pool rules. Reinforce the importance of never swimming alone. Don’t run near pools, avoid pushing or dunking games, and make sure your children understand how to behave safely in and around water.
