At Swim Superb, our Learn to Swim programme is carefully designed to take children on a clear and progressive journey from water confidence to technical swimming excellence. We teach children aged 3 to 12 in small class sizes to ensure individual attention, maximum progress and practice time.
Swim Superb follows the nationally recognised Swim England Learn to Swim Programme, designed to take children from first splash to confident, technically skilled swimmers. Each stage builds on the last, with clear goals and progressive development.
🐣 Stage 1: Introduction to Water
Children become comfortable in the water, learning to float, submerge, and move with support. Focus is on water confidence, fun, and safety.
🐟 Stage 2: Water Confidence & Independence
Children start swimming short distances with little or no support. Key water safety skills are introduced, including safe entries and floating unaided.
🐬 Stage 3: Developing Stroke Technique
Introduction to basic front crawl and backstroke. Children begin swimming further distances and develop core aquatic skills such as rotation.
🐳 Stage 4: Refining Technique & Water Skills
Swimmers work on refining front crawl and backstroke, while being introduced to breaststroke and butterfly. Skills like sculling and treading water are developed.
🐊 Stage 5: Stroke Proficiency & Water Safety
Technique across all strokes improves, with longer distances and new elements surface dives, and turning. Water safety and teamwork are key themes.
🐋 Stage 6: Full Stroke Development
Focus is on mastering all four strokes with efficient breathing. Children build endurance and control in deeper water.
🐬 Stage 7: Pre-Club Skills & Readiness
The final stage of the Learn to Swim framework prepares children for club-level swimming. All four strokes are refined, and advanced skills like streamlining, underwater swimming, and efficient starts and turns are introduced.
🐬 Stage 8: Advanced Technique & Fitness
Swimmers continue to refine all four strokes with a focus on efficiency, endurance, and speed. Sessions include drills to improve stroke technique, pacing, turns, and breathing control. Emphasis is placed on fitness, discipline, and goal-setting.
🐋 Stage 9: Competitive Skills & Race Readiness
This stage introduces swimmers to competitive swimming techniques, including race starts, turns, finishes, stroke transitions, and maintaining pace over distance. They begin applying technique under pressure and learning about race strategy and mental preparation.
🐳 Stage 10: Squad Prep & Performance Training
Swimmers follow structured training sets, focusing on stroke refinement under fatigue, sprinting, aerobic and anaerobic development, and personal best tracking. Technique remains a priority, with growing independence, ownership, and commitment.
🛟 Rookie Lifeguard Programme: Water Safety, Rescue & Life Skills
For swimmers aged 8+ who have completed Stage 7 or are confident in deep water, our Rookie Lifeguard programme, developed by the Royal Life Saving Society UK (RLSS), offers a fun and practical introduction to lifesaving skills. Through engaging, hands-on activities, children learn how to help themselves and others in emergency situations, while building fitness, confidence, and teamwork.
At Swim Superb, we’re not just shaping stronger swimmers — we’re building lifesavers, leaders, and lifelong water lovers.
